The simplest joinery

No complicated joints here. There is beauty in the simplest joinery.

Board and ledge doors. Rebated boards. Clinched rosehead nails. Nothing original. It works. Drill a hole through the board and ledge. Hammer nail through (not nailing door to trestles). Bend over end of nail.

Hammer flat (which pulls the boards and ledge together, or 'clinches' them). Let no man (or gravity!), pull asunder.

That nails it.

And for contrast the most ornate cherry spoon.

Salt

I've never made a salt before. We use salt loose, so it's about time I made something attractive for the salt to live in.

So, sea monster salt in cherry, with a praying Jonah salt spoon in black walnut.

I'm not putting my fingers in there, but Jonah......it's his job apparently.

Boss spoon no.2

 Another church boss-inspired spoon.

Cherry.

A bit stuck on this form. And spoons in general. But then it has been the holidays.

Back to oak board and ledge doors tomorrow.

Boss spoon. Cherry.

 Church boss-inspired spoon. In cherry.

With a new friend in cherry. And an old friend in black walnut.

Cherry Spoon

Turning all morning. So some light relief with a cherry spoon this afternoon.

The first acorn seedlings. They have decided that spring is here.

The beginnings of the oak forest.
